INDICATIONS
For the treatment of babesiosis and theileriasis in animals. To sterilize babesia infections in ruminants and horses to be exported or moved to disease-free areas.
For the treatment of canine malignant icterus.
For the treatment and prevention of trypanosomiasis in animals.
DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION
Dissolve 1 vial of 2.36 g powder in 15 ml of sterile water for injection to obtain a ready-to-use 7% diminazene diacetate solution.
Inject the solution by subcutaneous or intramuscular routes. Use preferably the I.M. route in horses.
Treatment of babesiosis:
Cattle, sheep, dog: 3.5 mg diminazene diacetate/kg BW or 1 ml/20 kg BW
Horse: 5 mg diminazene diaceturate/kg bw or ±10 ml/140 kg bw on 2 consecutive days.
Treatment of theileriasis:
Cattle: 5-10 mg diminazene diacetate/kg BW or 10 ml/70-140 kg BW for 2 consecutive days or 3-4 injections on alternate days.
Treatment of trypanosomiasis:
Cattle, horse, dog:
- congolense, T. vivax: 3.5 mg diminazene diaceturate/kg bw or 1 ml/20 kg bw
T.brucei, T.evansi, T.equiperdum: 7 mg diminazene diaceturate/kg bw or 1 ml/10 kg bw
Camels: 1.75 mg (max. 3.5 mg) diminazene diaceturate/kg bw or 1 ml (max. 2 ml)/40 kg bw
UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS
Transient local reactions may appear at the injection site.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AND WARNINGS
For accurate dosing, accurate estimates or determinations of animal weights are essential.
Where the volume to be injected exceeds 20ml, administer in two injection sites.
Dogs and camels are very sensitive to diminazene toxicity. Overdoses or multiple doses may cause severe nervous disturbances and hepatotoxic reactions. It is advised to use lower dosage rates in these species.
WITHDRAWAL TIMES
– For meat: 21 days.
– For milk: 4 days.
